Scarves are a very popular accessory, and for very good reason too. A scarf can dress up and outfit in a wink, or make an otherwise blah outfit comfy, cozy chic! Now, when it is cool out or down right freezing tying on a scarf makes perfect sense. However, what do you do when your ensemble needs a little pizzaz and it is starting to get warm out. Simply enough, wear a scarf. Yes, I said that again wear a scarf.

You simply need to choose your scarves with care. A thin, gauzy scarf can change an outfit around as soon as it is around your neck. Today’s outfit was as simple as could be. It is a black v-neck tee and jeans with silver sandals. It really doesn’t get much more basic than that. This scarf is perfect for summer weather. It is long, soft, and wrapped around my neck it hangs just perfectly. Do you wear scarves during the warmer months?

The All Important Summer Scarf- Target

This weekend Nate and I went to see the Hunger Games with a few of my family members. Because, we were unsure of how busy a 12:30 showing would be Nate and I agreed to show up at the mall early to save our spots in line. In all reality, we didn’t need to do that, so I did a little window shopping while Nate sat reading his Nook. I thought it would make a decent post to share some of my favorite window displays.

Gap, blue & white, stripes, patterns

The Gap had a cute blue and white themed display that really caught my eye. Blue is my favorite colors, but this particular shade is just so pretty for summer. The cobalt blue maxi skirt is definitely on my wish list!

Gap Kids, Gap, pastels, window displays

As usual, Gap Kids had a setup that I had to snap a picture of. I would love to have an unlimited shopping spree at Gap/Gap Kids! Oh what a haul that would be!

Loft, the loft, window display, coral, stripes, florals, floral print, patterns, patterned

The last window display is from The Loft. Not only do I like that their mannequins have lips. I liked the coral colors, florals, and stripes. You will see a lot of this color for spring and summer 2012.

That’s it! My window shopping wrap up! What have you been spying in the windows of stores near you?

I’m back at it ladies and gentlemen. My first of the now monthly Friend Friday questions. Remember you can chime in and catch everyone else’s answers at ModlyChic.

1. With Fashion week just around the corner, we are all beginning to
focus on the upcoming trends for fall. But what about the trends
hitting stores now? What are you coveting?

neon sweater, fashion trends

I am looking to pick up a few more neon pieces to style this spring. I really like the look of pairing a neon statement piece with neutrals and pastels.
2. How do you incorporate new trends into your wardrobe?

Since, I’m all about wearing what I already have. I like to first figure out if I can transform or remix a piece I already own to fit a new trend I want to try out. If nothing in my closet will work and I really want to wear a trend I’ll find something new, but wear it with my current wardrobe.
3. What trend are you seeing and not loving?

Ummm…I can’t think of any off the top of my head. What about you? What are you not loving for this coming season.
4. Do you feel the pressure to constantly update your closet with the
latest trends?

Heck no! I don’t have anything eloquent to say about this, but I simply do not feel pressed to be on trend. If I like it I’ll buy it, but if I don’t I won’t give it a second thought. Even if I like a trend that does not mean I’ll buy it.
5. Where do you find inspiration that takes the trend and makes it
accessible to you and your personal taste?

My fellow fashion bloggers. Check out my blog roll or my style board on Pinterest and you will see how I stay inspired.

Color Blocking: Wearing two or more solid blocks of color in a single outfit.

color blocking red/purpleSounds simple, doesn’t it? Well it is simple, yet it is a trend we have seen on NYFW’s runways again for spring/summer 2012. Now the reason it is popular, and mentioned as a trend is because color blocking is most commonly styled with bright colors. Often almost neon shades! That isn’t something for the faint of heart. However, you can still wear the color blocking trend by doing the simplest definition of the trend. Combine two solid block of color.color blocking purple cardigan red shirt, jeans

That is what I did for today’s outfit. I simply combined to solid block of color in the form of a shirt and a cardigan. However, I chose two colors that I don’t normally wear together for my color blocking outfit. Red and Purple. Because, it was cold out I decided to add a scarf and knee high socks with my oxfords. What do you think? What is your opinion of the color blocking trend?sweater, scarf, jeans

Last week we had a Friend Friday topic that comes up as sure as the seasons change. Top 5 Trends! Yes, I did participate with Katy and the rest of the gang and gave you 5 fall trends. However, these types of posts never fail to be difficult for me to write. Why you ask?!? I should be able to flip through any of the September issues of magazines I have received, and quickly bang out a post that lists 5 trends I will be sporting this fall. That never seems to be the case.

I think I finally figured it the issue I have with trends. It isn’t that I don’t like the things that magazines, the internet, fashion bloggers, or even the clothing companies themselves say is in season or on trend. The problem is that if I dress according to what is the current trend I look like everybody else. That isn’t to say I won’t wear something that happens to be trendy at the time. It means that I will be wearing the piece, because, I like it! I also don’t mean to sound like bloggers that wear items that are trendy look like everybody else. I will never cease to be inspired by the myriad of interpretations bloggers will take on trends.

You see, I wrote about boots being a fall trend. Now that isn’t fashion history in the making. Nearly every fall/winter boots of some kind are said to be one of the season’s trends. However, how you choose to style the boots will determine if you are just following trends or being a trend setter. I don’t claim to be setting trends, by any means. My simple mission of this blog is to show you my personal style, trends or trendiness be damned.

What is your opinion of trends? Do you follow trends just because, or only if you really like something and it works on you? Have you ever purchased something trendy, yet never wore it because it wasn’t right for you?
