Crazy Pants

I remember a long time ago that I couldn’t wait till I could shop in the junior’s department. Well, these days I’m jazzed that I can still shop in the kid’s department. The junior’s department at Target has a few different pairs of printed pants, still a big trend this season, but I didn’t want to pay $20+ dollars for them. I lucked out and found these for $16 in the kid’s department. They are brighter and crazier than the “older” versions, but they are fun!12-31-12#2 12-31-12#3Leather Motto Jacket-Wilson’s, Shirt-Target, Floral Pants-Target, Shoes-Payless

Nate, Lyla, and I went to the park to take pictures, and they just happened to be watering one section of grass. I personally thought this was a little weird to be doing at 7pm. Especially, while the senior citizens were still arriving for there ballroom lessons at the indoor pavilion right next to the sprinklers. However, to a three year old on a warm summery night, the sprinklers called out to Lyla just begging her to run through them. Of course, being the cool mom I am, when she asked me to join her I leaped at the opportunity. Literally!

I’m just glad I decided not to wear a white t-shirt today, or I would have had to find a way to distract Lyla from the siren call of the sprinklers. I also would have ended up without pictures of this outfit, as I am not the type of person to compete in a wet t-shirt contest.

I’m kind of proud of this outfit. Really, how many ways can you rework a romper?!? I’ve worn it with tights and a motorcycle jacket, or with a tank and leggings underneath. However, those are just different ways to style the romper. Today, I decided to wear it as a pair of granny shorts. I really liked the way it turned out. The bonus was not finding another way to style this piece. It was going to the bathroom without stripping down!

In 2003, the city of Lincoln had a public art exhibit around town that featured artistic bicycle sculptures. Of course, it was aptly named the Tour de Lincoln. At the end of the 5 month public run a large auction was held. Many of the 71 bikes on display still remain in the city, although, some have different permanent homes.tour de lincoln black-dress-bicycle-sculpture

I ran across one of the bikes during my “Best Friend” photo shoot, and decided it would be a good project to try and take my ootd pictures with as many of the Tour de Lincoln bicycles that I could find. This may take awhile, but here is my starting point on my personal Tour de Lincoln.tour de lincoln black-dress

This month for Everybody, Everywear the public choose mix prints as the way to dress. I don’t have anything against mixing patterns. In fact, I’ve done it before.  However, I knew this time around I would have a little more difficulty. You see most of my items that fit me at this point are solid colors. I have some prints that still fit, but they are mostly bottoms only. Pretty tough to put together an outfit of just skirts. Though I know it could be doable. Hmmm…Maybe that should be my next self-challenge! I lucked out with a slightly cooler than average day. That meant this polka dot and bird print cardigan could make another blog appearance. Woot, Woot! This dress, turned skirt, worn as a dress, has also made it to the blog more than a few times.

Together, they made a good pattern mixing duo for the challenge! I also felt pretty in this outfit, and at 30 weeks pregnant that is always a good thing!

These pictures were taken at our local Veteran’s Memorial Garden. It was an experience with Lyla that I will never forget. She is very inquisitive, and wanted to know about where we were. I explained to her what all the names were about. She was very concerned about the people represented, and was sad that some of them never came home to there mommy and daddy. She said she was happy that they were helping her, but wanted to take the time to pray for them. Of course, I obliged her.

The next part was tough. Every statue or monument we passed she wanted to know what it was for. Some were easier than others to explain to a three year old, but all in all I think she learned at least a little bit. I know it made me cry.

This week for What They Wore Wednesday I wanted to show you how much fun you can have when you take a turn with a colored version of a classic piece. Pencil skirts have been in style for a very long time, and they come in many textures, lengths, and even awesome colors. I personally have a few pencil skirts in fun colors. My favorite is probably this red thrifted skirt.

(tip: You can usually find oodles of pencil skirts at thrift stores. Don’t be afraid to look at the suits too. It is usually pretty cheap to get a suit and rock the skirt even if you hate the jacket. You can even turn around an re-donate it right away!)

Fashion Recon put another great outfit together for this weeks What They Wore post, and I love it again. This is a Fun, Summer Print too!
