Somebody asked me if my sundress had clouds on it. No clouds, just oddly shaped patterns. I decided the dress was too big for me as is, but belting it would be ok. Yet, after belting it I remembered that I would probably be a bit chilling that evening. After removing the belt, I chose a striped button up that would make for a fun pattern blend. I would be warm enough too.

This weekend I was in charge of the finale rehearsal at my studio. Usually, this practice has 50+ girls and two teachers and one high school assistant. Because, the Arabesque Company, our dance team was competing in Kansas City we had fewer ten ten fewer girls. However, it also meant that I was the only teacher. Thankfully, everything went really well and the dancers worked really hard.

How was your weekend? Any exciting happenings?

plaid shirt, rosesThe fashion blogging community has mixed opinions on pregnant bloggers, and how much or little should be shared. Some people don’t mind pregnant bloggers just as long as they don’t get all mushy, gushy on them. I have not been told I have gone over board, or that people appreciate my take on maternity fashion while not crossing an invisible line of “etiquette” for a lack of a better word. However, I’m almost done with this pregnancy, and it will likely be my last (for awhile at least). Since, I am nearing the finish line I may cross that invisible line and post my un-maternity pictures. I say “un-maternity”, because, I didn’t do a lot of the look at my baby bump!, or overly sweet husband kissing the belly, and I certainly wasn’t going to show my pregnancy battle scars (even though I’m not ashamed of them in the least bit). In these maternity pictures I am fully clothed, by myself, and the only gushy part is  the words already written in the ground.maternity pictures, pattern mixing, butterfliesmaternity pictures, pattern mixing, flannel shirt

I was in the mood for fall pattern mixing in hopes of cooler weather for browsing the Barn Festival last weekend. Sadly, it was 70 out and I was a bit toasty.pattern mixing, flannel shirt, plaid shirt, jeansstripes and plaid,

The next few weeks on What They Wore I will be switching things up a little bit. I will be featuring a few of my fellow pregnant bloggers, and how they have shown off some amazing pregnancy fashion.

Megan, of Chasing Davies, is my first pregnancy fashion, featured blogger. She is having a little boy, and has already put together a stellar nursery inspiration mood board. I stumbled upon her blog after finding her on a style/fashion blogger map put together by Rose ala Mode. (check out the button on my sidebar) I was looking for bloggers within about a 5 hour car drive radius. Enough with the rambling. Let me get down to why I chose her for this feature.

Color blocking is featured as a way of dressing that can be very slimming. For the pregnant fashionista it can also be a very cute way of framing your little bump.

Wearing your button ups with a growing bump can be really tough. Most women have a tough time buttoning up their tops shortly after they get a positive pregnancy test. A cute way to style them during pregnancy is to tie them up as a crop top over your belly. Meggy did this while pattern mixing. Isn’t is a cute look? I wore this style with my husband’s button up, because, mine wouldn’t fit over my expanded chest line.

Adjusting Waistlines

This is one of the joys of pregnancy. To quote this fashionista, “Getting to hike my skirts way up.  This one was practically sitting right under my boobs.” I personally have made quite a few pieces work quite far into this pregnancy by hiking them up higher than normal. Once you can’t do this and can’t get it zipped; try a Bella Band and don’t tuck in your blouse.

Remember to check out Chasing Davies, and follow along with her adorable pregnancy fashion journey while waiting to catch a glimpse of her cute bundle of joy.

This month for Everybody, Everywear the public choose mix prints as the way to dress. I don’t have anything against mixing patterns. In fact, I’ve done it before.  However, I knew this time around I would have a little more difficulty. You see most of my items that fit me at this point are solid colors. I have some prints that still fit, but they are mostly bottoms only. Pretty tough to put together an outfit of just skirts. Though I know it could be doable. Hmmm…Maybe that should be my next self-challenge! I lucked out with a slightly cooler than average day. That meant this polka dot and bird print cardigan could make another blog appearance. Woot, Woot! This dress, turned skirt, worn as a dress, has also made it to the blog more than a few times.

Together, they made a good pattern mixing duo for the challenge! I also felt pretty in this outfit, and at 30 weeks pregnant that is always a good thing!

These pictures were taken at our local Veteran’s Memorial Garden. It was an experience with Lyla that I will never forget. She is very inquisitive, and wanted to know about where we were. I explained to her what all the names were about. She was very concerned about the people represented, and was sad that some of them never came home to there mommy and daddy. She said she was happy that they were helping her, but wanted to take the time to pray for them. Of course, I obliged her.

The next part was tough. Every statue or monument we passed she wanted to know what it was for. Some were easier than others to explain to a three year old, but all in all I think she learned at least a little bit. I know it made me cry.

I am still absolutely beside myself that I have been able to wear so many of my regular clothing items so far into this pregnancy. I’m the happiest that so many of my skirts found at thrift stores still fit, or at least can be modified to be wearable still. I’m not saying this to brag. I’m happy about this fact, because, it is so incredibly hot out that skirts and dresses are a few of the best things to wear right now. I wear shorts too, but they aren’t always as comfortable or cool enough to wear. Did you see my DIY yellow shorts?
