If you are like me your reason behind not liking to wear lipstick is the difficulty you have reapplying in public sans mirror. I also don’t like how most long lasting lipsticks tend to dry my lips out requiring more applications to combat the dryness. I simply prefer tinted lip gloss and balms. The shape of the applicators lend themselves to easier coverage while staying in the lines. Or the balm is in a tin, so I’m using my finger to apply the product. Either way, I just find myself reaching for them before my lipsticks everyday.

Beauty Control Tiger Eye lipstick, Victoria's Secret Soothing Lip Balm

I have a lipstick that I really like the color of, but I know I won’t be wearing much this fall/winter just because it is a lipstick. What should I do? I’m not going to toss out something I like when I can make some changes to it, and get lots of use out of it. I decided I would combine i with a nude gloss that was a bit too shiny for my liking.DIY tinted lip balm

The first step is to scoop out the gloss. Followed by cutting the remaining chunk of lipstick from the tube. After those two steps I mashed the lip stick into the gloss and mixed it together. Once, the two products were properly blended I used my blow dryer to heat it up to a runny consistency.how to DIY tinted lip balm

After it was runny enough I put it back into the tin, and cleaned off the edges. After letting it cool I now have a lip gloss that has a color I like, a creamier texture instead of glossy, but it still has a shine to it.how to tinted lip gloss

I’ve simplified my basic everyday routine down to five of my favorite products. They also happen to combine to make simple look in minutes flat. I know not everybody is adding a baby to the family like myself and these ladies, but nearly everyone is looking for ways to get out of the door faster. Without further rambling, here are my top five fast and easy beauty products.

I start my routine by smoothing on the Wet n Wild primer/foundation. To keep it quick and simple I just use my fingers to do this part. I really like that I don’t have to have agonize over picking out a perfectly matching foundation for both spring/summer and fall/winter. Since this one self-adjusts I can typically get away with the one level all year long. When I want extra coverage I apply my liquid foundation after this step. It helps even things out a bit when used as a foundation. When used as a primer it helps my foundation last all day long.

The reason I really like the E.L.F. felt tip eyeliner, is you can easily make your line as thin or dramatic as you would like. It gets bonus points for not needing to be sharpened. I hate sharpening liner pencils.beauty products Maybelline Falsies mascara

I’ve mentioned this beauty product before on the blog. Maybelline Falsies Volume Express Mascara is my all time favorite mascara. As far as beauty products go it is fairly inexpensive, and can be found at all drugstores.

This week we are taking a deeper look of the beauty side of the Fashion Beauty Friend Friday. We are talking about taking are beauty routines over to the Green Side. Take a look at the brains behind this group by visiting Katy over at ModlyChic. She also will have a complete list of my fellow bloggers participating this week.

1. The move to do away with soap, shampoo and deodorant has been
growing in popularity in the last year. What are your thoughts on this
trend?
I wouldn’t say we should do away with them all together, but using greener choices isn’t a bad thing at all. When lessening the use of some of the products, or switching to an alternative item can be done without loosing the effectiveness I’m all for giving it a go.

2. Be honest how often do you wash your own hair?
I shampoo my hair probably two times a week. However, every third shower I wash with conditioner. That way I avoid the greasy look by getting it wet, but I still keep it moisturized.

3. Have you tried to go the more natural route by forgoing shampoo?
What happened? Or would you be tempted to try it?
I absolutely can’t forgo shampoo, or I end up with some of the greasiest hair I’ve ever seen. As I mentioned in question #2 I use other alternative means of “washing” my hair. Also, I use dry shampoo on the occasion I still need to soak up a little extra oil.
I found a good article about going sans suds, but I agree with the writer that this is a better option for culry/coarse hair. Straight strands like mine I feel need to be washed every now and then, or else you end up with oily, limp hair.

4. What products do you use and have you ever gone with more organic
alternatives?
Goodness, I don’t think I can list all of the products I use here. Maybe, I should do a separate post for that post sometime. However, I have tried a few more organic options with unsatisfied results. I tried Tom’s toothpaste, but really disliked the flavor. (hate is to strong of a word) I have also tried there deodorant. I’ll be honest with this one I don’t think I smelled bad, but I need an antiperspirant also.

5. What about that daily shower? Would you forgo that opting to shower
three times a week instead?
As a dancer anytime I have or teach a class I shower when I get home. If I truly did nothing all day to dirty myself I would try to shower only three times a week, but for me it just isn’t practical.
