Lazy Day

Yesterday, was such a lazy day. I took the kids to the YMCA this morning for Lyla’s swimming lessons. Jazz went to Child Watch and after Lyla’s class was done we went swimming together. She really likes swimming with me, but up until this week swimming lessons have been a bit of a nightmare. She was hungry, had to go to the bathroom, needed a drink, was too cold…a million things wrong that ended up in her screaming for most of the first few classes. Thankfully, this week she really enjoyed the class and even jumped in and put her head under the water. After the pool we went home and read books for most of the day. Followed by, grilling pork chops for supper. For a day like this I saw no need to dress up. I kept things comfortable with this Mickey Mouse sweatshirt.

Today, is my first day back at the studio after spring break. I must say I’m so glad to be going back to work. Even after just one week away from my normal routine I missed it so much. It will be nice to have my me time back. I love my kids, but being home with them for the entire day by myself while Nate worked an extra job every night last week ideas a bit overwhelming.

Visual FBFF: 50′s Inspired Fashion

I have been having a hard time getting dressed without feeling just plain blah. This was a challenge that I knew I could make without having to much trouble getting dressed. I went with a male as my inspiration, and am glad I did. Can you guess what my inspiration was? I actually got a lot of compliments on my outfit. Without further ado I give you my inspiration.

Now it was a bit warm out to wear a jacket, so I opted out. However, my bouffant, white t-shirt, cuffed jeans, and black shoes had a good enough feel for the outfit.

What is color blocking, and why is it a trend?

Color Blocking: Wearing two or more solid blocks of color in a single outfit.

color blocking red/purpleSounds simple, doesn’t it? Well it is simple, yet it is a trend we have seen on NYFW’s runways again for spring/summer 2012. Now the reason it is popular, and mentioned as a trend is because color blocking is most commonly styled with bright colors. Often almost neon shades! That isn’t something for the faint of heart. However, you can still wear the color blocking trend by doing the simplest definition of the trend. Combine two solid block of color.color blocking purple cardigan red shirt, jeans

That is what I did for today’s outfit. I simply combined to solid block of color in the form of a shirt and a cardigan. However, I chose two colors that I don’t normally wear together for my color blocking outfit. Red and Purple. Because, it was cold out I decided to add a scarf and knee high socks with my oxfords. In a Meadow You Shall Find

chambray shirt, dressLyla and I had to go out to run an errand for Nate. I’m glad I grabbed my camera when we left the house. The slightly overcast day, and this little field by the lake provided the perfect backdrop for outfit pictures. I thought the chambray shirt and dress looked perfectly at home amongst the grass.

I love how chambray shirts can be a perfect layering piece or worn by themselves. How about you? Is it cooling off where you are? We keep bouncing around here, so it is hard to choose what to wear in advance anymore.

Dress for how you want to feel, not how you feel.

Oh, what a day! It started out beautifully. Lyla slept until 7:30, came into my room, and slept another 45 min. However, I think the trick to that blissful arrangement is the absence of nap time. I’m not sure if I like that idea or not, but I thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing time spent alone in bed. To my surprise that was followed by a day spent with a happy kiddo. After making it to a late lunch with not a meltdown in sight, I decided to test out the rest of the day without a nap again. It seemed to work pretty well. The only issue I had at all was a mishap upon leaving Grammy’s while we were entering the biggest storm of the season.

This is what I chose to wear on a day I felt like absolute crap. This was the day after recital, and I didn’t go to bed until sometime after 2am. That, my friends, is way too late for me. I’m an old married person (with kids to boot), and don’t get invited out often. My body is sorely out of practice for such activity.

Anyway, I wanted to look a thousand times better than I felt. This blazer paired with the wedges did just the trick. Do you dress up too feel better about how you feel? Is there a particular piece in your closet that when you put it on you feel a million times better. I guess it is a take on the fashion directive about dressing for the job you want, and not the job you have.The Scoop
